International Women’s Day is celebrated as a national holiday by countries across the globe. As a woman founded and operated brand, we’re here to empower women today and every day. We’ve asked our President, Karen Minsky to share her thoughts on being a powerful female leader:

What is the best and worst decision you've ever made?
Best: Joining Dionis and re-energizing this amazing brand. Worst: Not working on a goat farm my entire career.

What was your dream job as a kid and why?
Writing for a female character on TV because so many women were overlooked or considered secondary, and I didn’t want little girls growing up thinking that was real.

What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership?
Being treated as an equal and handling three jobs simultaneously —President, Wife, and Mother.

What do you believe will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?
The capacity to multitask given the demands of modern life and careers.

What advice can you offer young women hoping to become President of a company one day?
Take on an operations role of a brand; work every job within the building to understand what drives the organization; it’s impossible to successfully run a business you don’t know everything about.  Once you’ve done that, running a brand is not hard, it’s the team you build to run it with you that makes the difference. Lastly, climbing your way to top as a woman isn’t easy; never give up and never stop fighting.

Our founder, Kate Crosby, was a strong female building a brand that wouldn’t take no for an answer or be discouraged by hard work. This was a time when female-led companies were few and far between. Forty years after Kate Crosby walked into a Cracker Barrel with a goat under her arm, Karen continues to build on Dionis’ legacy with passion, authenticity, and determination.
